Damaged solar panel from severe weather.

YOUR STORM-DAMAGED SOLAR SYSTEM NEEDS ATTENTION BEFORE IT COSTS YOU MORE.

Spring storms have hit the Kansas City area hard this year. Hail, high winds, and tornadoes can damage solar panels and roofing systems in ways you can’t see from the ground. Left unaddressed, that hidden damage leads to reduced energy production, voided warranties, and repairs that only get more expensive the longer you wait.

STORM DAMAGE TO YOUR SOLAR SYSTEM IS NOT SOMETHING YOU CAN SEE FROM THE GROUND

Hail doesn’t have to shatter a panel to cause serious problems. Impacts can create tiny fractures, called microcracks, inside cells that propagate over time with temperature changes. You can’t see these cracks from the ground, but they reduce how much electricity your panels can produce. A system that looked fine the day after the storm can quietly lose 10%–25% of its output over the following months without you ever knowing.

High winds create a different set of issues. Racking bolts loosen. Flashing lifts around roof penetrations. Conduit connections start to pull apart. Panels shift and no longer sit flush on their mounts. These are the problems that let water in, trigger electrical faults, and put your entire roof at risk during the next storm. If your system moved during a storm, it needs a professional inspection before it rains again.

Most solar owners may not realize their system is compromised because nothing appears obviously wrong from the ground. The panels are still up there. The inverter light is still green. But behind the scenes, your production is declining, your warranty may already be at risk, and the damage is worsening with every weather cycle.

YOUR INSTALLER PROBABLY TOLD YOU SOLAR PANELS ARE BUILT TO LAST. THAT DOES NOT MEAN THEY ARE BUILT TO SURVIVE WITHOUT INSPECTION.

Solar panels are built to handle standard hail, roughly one inch in diameter at about 50 miles per hour. The storms that hit the Kansas City area this spring went far beyond that, with hail much larger than normal and wind gusts well above the ratings of typical residential mounting systems.

Your panels may look fine from the ground. The mounting system, wiring, and waterproofing underneath may not be.

The real question is not whether your system is still standing.

The real question is whether it’s still performing.

And the longer you wait to find out, the harder it becomes to connect that damage to a specific storm event for your insurance claim. Adjusters move on. Estimates expire. What could have been covered as storm damage turns into repairs you have to pay for out of pocket.

  1. Solar panel storm damage inspection to identify microcracks, cell degradation, wiring faults, and mounting system failures that are not visible from the ground

  2. Solar panel removal and reinstallation (detach and reset) for roof replacements, performed by NABCEP-certified technicians who ensure your system goes back up exactly as it should, with all warranties intact

  3. Hail and wind damage repair including panel replacement, inverter diagnostics, wiring repair, racking realignment, and conduit reconnection

  4. Full electrical system testing after every repair or reinstallation to verify your system is producing at its rated capacity before we leave your property

  5. Detailed inspection reports documenting all damage found, all work performed, and the current condition of your system, which you can use for insurance claims

  6. Insurance coordination support to help ensure the scope of your claim reflects the full extent of the damage, including solar-specific line items that adjusters frequently miss

SOLAR SCAPES DOES NOT JUST INSPECT AND LEAVE

Every service call includes a full walkthrough of your system by technicians who work on solar panels every day. We inspect your panels, wiring, racking, roof penetrations, inverter, and production data. If something is wrong, we find it. If something needs to be replaced, we take care of it. If your panels need to come off for a roof replacement, we remove them safely, store them properly, and reinstall them after the new roof is in place.

Most roofing companies are not trained or certified to handle solar. When a general roofer removes your system, you risk damaged panels, voided equipment warranties, compromised waterproofing at mounting points, and reduced energy production after reinstallation. Solar Scapes removes that risk because we are the solar company. We built the systems. We know the equipment. We protect the warranties.

We’re one of the proud solar companies in the Kansas City area, certified by NABCEP, hold a Solar Panel Cleaning School Certification, and are certified installers for Generac, Enphase, and Franklin WH. When your system needs work after a storm, you want the team with the credentials and experience to do it right the first time.
